Volunteering at WUSS 2011

WUSS conferences are organized and run entirely by volunteers—energetic people like YOU who get involved. Positions range from simple—no prior experience needed—to quite involved. You can choose from a variety of volunteer positions according to your interests and available time. Volunteering is a great way to get to know people and it is easy and fun. You can volunteer at a time that is convenient for you.

Volunteer Opportunities

  • Session Coordinators help make the paper presentation process flow easily by assisting the Section Chairs with running the paper sessions. Coordinators help with administrative tasks like timekeeping, attendance tracking, lighting, equipment, and introducing speakers. It’s a great way to help out while attending a section of interest. Session coordinators usually work one morning or one afternoon block of a given section. Many of our section chairs started their involvement with WUSS as session coordinators.

  • Hands-On Workshop Facilitators provide assistance to attendees in Hands-on Workshop sessions. The requirements are competency in subject content and a willingness to review and understand material that will be presented. You may be asked to assist with basic hardware or operating system instructions.

  • Code Doctors assist attendees with problematic SAS code and SAS processes. The requirements are expertise in two or more SAS topics, such as Base SAS, macros, report writing, ODS, SQL, SAS Enterprise Guide®, and statistics.

  • Registration and Information Desk volunteers assist the conference registrars distribute registration materials and provide general information to attendees about the conference.

  • Book Drive Table volunteers help with setup and collection of books and donations during the conference.

  • Giveaway Desk volunteers assist attendees picking up their giveaways during registration.

  • “WUSS Up, San Francisco?” Desk volunteers are the conference concierge. Maps and information about San Francisco and nearby restaurants are provided to attendees. If you are familiar with San Francisco, this may be the job for you.

  • Operations Support volunteers help with setup, tear-down, signs, and catering—wherever help is needed!
