WUSS 2024 Presentation Content

So you want to present at WUSS, but you’re not sure what to talk about? Or you’re concerned that your topic might be too basic, too advanced, too technical, not technical enough, or just too “out there.” This page showcases content areas for which WUSS is soliciting authors in 2024, as well as a content meta-analysis of papers presented at WUSS 2022 and 2023. The breadth and depth of topics is salient, and we hope this page encourages your contributions today!

“SAS” may be right there in the name—Western Users of SAS Software—but it isn’t the only game in town. Yes, most content presented at WUSS does showcase SAS software, SAS programming (e.g., Base SAS, the SAS macro language), SAS environments (e.g., SAS Viya, SAS Display Manager, SAS Enterprise Guide, SAS Studio), and SAS interoperability with other platforms and languages. However, open-source content is increasingly featured in the conference proceedings. In other words, we want your SAS—but we also want your Python, R, and other open-source data analytics content!

Content Keywords

New in 2024, each proposal is required to have at least five associated keywords that describe its content. Keywords are required at the time of submission, but can be modified as the paper or presentation is updated. Keywords are used by conference attendees, who can more readily attend presentations of interest. And when the WUSS conference has concluded, white papers and slide presentations are uploaded to the Lex Jansen website, where these same keywords are published to help readers more efficiently locate your work.

While submitting your proposal, if you believe that a necessary keyword has been omitted that describes your work, please add it to one of the two “Add Keyword” text fields. As proposals are submitted throughout the Call for Content window, we will be reviewing the keywords proposed by authors, and will be making incremental updates to this page as well as in the WUSS Submission System.

Content Analysis

At WUSS 2022 and WUSS 2023, programmers and statisticians, educators and students, system administrators and newbies, and data enthusiasts of all interests and industries gathered in San Francisco and San Diego, respectively, to deliver and attend nearly 200 thrilling talks. From these presentations, 164 papers (comprising 2,472 pages) were published as part of the conference proceedings, and their varied content is demonstrated in the following phrase cloud. And this only scratches the surface of the innovative content that will be showcased throughout three days of WUSS presentations!

Yes, that’s a phrase cloud (not a word cloud) that features multi-word phrases (e.g., data set, macro variable), preferential capitalization (e.g., DATA step, PROC SQL), and data standardization and binning! Join us at WUSS 2024, where the Academic Chair, Troy Martin Hughes, will demonstrate the Python software and language model he developed that programmatically extracts, evaluates, and quantifies text to generate data-driven phrase clouds.
